Here's 40 Day Dream from the footage we shot on the last night of the 3 week Regent Theatre residency, edited by Edward Sharpe frontman Alex Ebert. There are few bands anywhere today that bring out energy at live shows like this band. I can only imagine what Abbot Kinney Blvd will look like this Sunday when they take the Little Radio stage. Outdoor street revival? You better believe!
Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros perform @ 4:30pm on the Little Radio Stage @ Abbot Kinney Fest in Venice Beach. Full lineup HERE.
Here is a clip from the Little Radio presented Downtown Holiday Block Party. This is The Like. Another block party in our new neighborhood is set for late summer.
Live footage of LA rockabilly-punk legends X performing "The World's A Mess; It's In My Kiss." The original track appears on their 1980 debut LP Los Angeles (Slash). This clip comes from the classic documentary film on X called "Unheard Music" (1986).
Some music history for ya: This clip comes from a documentary put out by the BBC in 2005 called Soul Deep: The Story of Black Popular Music. Stevie Wonder completely revolutionized his sound (and that of soul music overall) in the early 70s when he discovered the new synthesizer, TONTO, "the world's first (and still the largest) multitimbral polyphonic analog synthesizer, designed and constructed by Malcolm Cecil." Check out the footage of Stevie recording "Livin' for the City"...heavy.
Crystal Antlers performing at The Mohawk on 6.27.08. This was a show opening for Matt & Kim on the Fuck Yeah Tour. Later in the night, Crystal Antlers played an afterparty on the Pfluger Bridge over Town Lake in downtown Austin (along with Team Robespierre and Death Set). Instruments were powered by a little gas generator. It was pretty cool 'til the cops showed up and laid down the law at about 4am. Filmed by Eric Guzman.
Check out this video our friends put together. The Fuck Yeah '08 Tour - which hit The Mohawk in Austin on June 27 - runs on grease. Literally. Cooking grease, to be exact. Here's footage of the guys filling their diesel tourbus with used kitchen grease at The Woodland Restaurant on South Congress in Austin the day after the show. Cameo appearance by Transmission's own Graham Williams.
School of Language is the sideproject of Field Music's David Brewis. As part of the Retread Sessions, presented at the Mohawk in Austin, TX, by our friends at KUT 90.5 FM, Brewis got some breathing room to do some reconstructed versions of the tracks from Sea From Shore, his debut full-length release. Here's "Western Holiday." Thanks to KUT and Super!Alright! for making this one happen.
Presented by Transmission Entertainment and ordained by the holy gods of guitar rock, El Paso Hot Button played the Mohawk in Austin, TX, on May 31, 2008, opening for Austin locals UME and Those Peabodys. If you haven't heard this one-man guitar & drum assault, it's high time you did. This guy brings style & power to the traditional one-man-band approach at long last. Cheggit:
Oh yeah, we should also mention that El Paso Hot Button does his own smoke machine work, triggered throughout his performance with a foot pedal. How awesome is that.
